The wise Athena struck the Attica earth with her spear (in Greek DORY) and a silver leafed and evergreen olive tree sprouted. Then the immortal Olympian gods decided that the fruit of the blessed tree was the most valuable gift to the citizens and thus named the city ‘Athens’ after the goddess’s name.
